Sodium Chloride

Chemical formula: NaCl

Melting and solubility in water: sodium chloride dissolves completely in water and aqueous solutions are formed from it called salt water. This feature allows sodium chloride to be used as a solvent in various mixtures and solutions.

Thermal stability: sodium chloride has high thermal stability and does not decompose at high temperatures, which makes it a suitable material in thermal processes such as reduction and melting of minerals.

Electrical properties: Sodium chloride is used in the production of electrolytes and electrical media because it contains sodium and chloride ions.

Description

Sodium chloride, as common salt, is a basic and widely used chemical compound. This compound consists of sodium ion (Na⁺) and chloride ion (Cl⁻). Below are some of the chemical properties, uses and storage conditions of sodium chloride:

Applications of sodium chloride:

Food uses: Sodium chloride is added to foods as a food additive (E500) to improve taste, preserve and increase their shelf life.
Chemical industry: Sodium chloride is used as a raw material in the production of chemicals such as sodium hydroxide (sodium alkali), chlorine (swimming pool irrigation and disinfectant) and other chemical compounds.
Mineral sintering: In some mineral sintering and recovery processes, sodium chloride is used as an additive to increase thermal stability and control temperature.

Maintenance:

Sodium chloride should be stored in a dry and cool environment to avoid the effect of humidity and high temperature.
Contact with oxidizing agents or strong bases should be avoided to prevent undesirable degradation reactions.
Physical impact or cracks should be avoided during transportation to protect the quality of the material.
